1. 5 Program update

1. 5 Program update

DEFINITION OF TERMS:

UPDATE = addition and update of the PREMIER program databases, e.g., in connection with changes in legislation throughout the year or minor adjustments. It is carried out regularly throughout the year.

UPGRADE = expansion and addition of features of the PREMIER program, modifications and improvements to the user interface, new version of the program, significant legislative changes. It is carried out once a year, always in December. Described here.

Only a SUPERVISOR or a user who has this option enabled in "Manager - Preferences - Restrictions" can perform the update and upgrade to a higher version.

No one else is allowed to be logged into the program at that moment!!!

Program Update

The update of the PREMIER program can be done in two ways:

  1. Directly from the top menu of the program "Start - PREMIER Update".

  2. Using the installation file, which is available for download on our website.

Updates are very important and can be made at any time.

It is advisable to perform the update approximately twice a week.

The current internal version designation of the update, or the company version number of the program, can be found in the program registration "Tools - About the PREMIER system/License Registration".

This number may be requested by hotline staff to verify the version of the program update.

Procedure for performing the update from the top menu

This is an automatic program update system via the internet, which we recommend using primarily for quick access to news, innovations, and fixes for issues in the program.

Updates are carried out directly from the PREMIER program. After logging into PREMIER (as a SUPERVISOR), the top menu activates in any accounting unit: "Start - PREMIER Update"

Users can conveniently download all program updates at any time with just a click in the top menu of the program.

At this stage, no one may be logged into the PREMIER program on the network. This fact is very important and must be adhered to.

It is also necessary to check if there are any connected users in the Terminal Services Manager who have PREMIER running!!! These users need to be logged off from the server.

The update can be performed from any computer on the network.

The program will then connect you to the automated update system and will determine which modules need to be updated. The client can then choose either a complete update or specify which modules they want to update.

The program will then carry everything out automatically upon pressing the "Update" option.

We recommend always updating all modules.

After the update is launched, the program will start downloading individual files, then it will unpack them and update/install itself. Once the update is complete, the program will terminate.

The update can be downloaded and installed manually using the "Download" and then "Install" buttons.

For greater information, chronological comments on new features and fixes of the program by individual modules are available during the download (new features can be viewed by clicking on the respective module on the right side of the screen).

Blocking and Disconnecting Other Users

As mentioned several times, during the update, there must be no one else logged into the program other than the SUPERVISOR or the person performing the update.

You can easily find out if anyone is logged into the program through "Internal Messages", where you can subsequently block logins as described further, or through the "Currently" panel.

In the "Internal Messages" module, users can also "Disconnect".

The procedure for disconnecting users from the server is described here.

To prevent other users from logging in during the update process, there is a function in the program called "Block PREMIER system startup," which can be activated, for example, through "Internal Messages."

Once this option is checked, PREMIER will be blocked in such a way that it prevents any user from accessing it.

The SUPERVISOR can thus calmly perform the program update without worrying that someone will log into the system.

If the system is blocked, then in the next attempt to start the program, the system will also block the SUPERVISOR user. However, after pressing the "S" key, the SUPERVISOR can unblock the system for themselves and continue working.

Data Security Backup/Database Upgrade

After restarting the program following the update, some databases may still be updated in certain cases.

The program will inform the user about this step during the next launch.

In this case, it is always recommended to perform this update of certain databases, and it still applies that at this stage no user should be logged into the system and the program may still be blocked for all users.

The database upgrade is carried out in the specified accounting unit. If you want to perform the database upgrade in bulk, follow the instructions here.

Maintenance of Program Workers

If you see this message after starting the update program, maintenance of updates is currently in progress and updates cannot be performed at this moment.

Please try to run the update later.

Settings

In specific cases, you may see this table when starting the program (but also during downloading), which means that a successful connection to the internet has failed or has been interrupted. In such a case, follow the points listed:

  1. There may have been an outage in the local network, with the internet provider, or even an outage of the target server. Therefore, check if you can access the website www.premier.cz and if so, proceed further.

  2. If you are connecting through a proxy server, it is necessary to fill in the required information in the table. If they are not automatically pre-filled, the information will be provided by Your network administrator. Usually, you only need to fill in this information once, during the first launch.

If this dialog does not appear automatically and updates are still not possible due to the use of a proxy server, it is necessary to create an INI file in the directory \premier\. Please create a file named "update.ini" that will be saved in the directory \premier\. The structure of the INI file is simple. There will be 4 lines entered:

1st line = proxy server address
2nd line = port number
3rd line = username
4th line = password

Example of an INI file.

  1. If you are not using a proxy server, the internet is active, and yet the update program is not working, the program ps_updat.exe located in the Premiere directory is likely being blocked by a firewall or another security program on your PC, so please contact your network administrator again. Module downloads occur over port 80.

If you still cannot restore the connection, you can manually update the program by downloading it from the site www.premier.cz more general section "Program Installation".

Update using the installation file

First, download the latest version of the program from our website.

If you then run the installation "Setup.exe" on the computer or server where the previous version of the program (from version X3) was installed, the installer will automatically recognize that PREMIER is present on this computer and will offer you the option to update the program.

By selecting this option and confirming, the update installation will start, and everything will be updated automatically. If the server or computer on which the older version was installed has changed during the year, the installation can also be started via the downloaded "Setup.exe"; you just need to specify the path where the program will be installed. So, we will enter the directory where PREMIER is currently stored.

Automatic updates

The PREMIER update can also be set so that program updates will be carried out completely automatically. This is possible through a separate application that runs as a service PREMIER E-Agent. Automatic updates, like manual ones, will not be triggered if someone is logged into the program, both actively and passively, for example, if a user leaves the program running and is away from their workstation or does not log off properly from the remote desktop.

If the user does not log off from the remote desktop, it will not be possible to perform program updates.

However, IT administrators can set it up so that users are automatically logged off after a period of inactivity or if the user is in a "Disconnected" state. Therefore, inform the IT administrator to set this up.

Automatic logoff for disconnected users or users who have been inactive for, for example, 3 hours can be set up in the terminal connection console manager, or via GPO, where it can then be applied to a specific group of users.
